Chapter 3. Tutorial #1 Overlay

How to do an overlay.

Print your document to World Fax Capture.

(The Wizard will start automatically and the TIF will appear in the Select Documents Window)

e.g. doc1.tif

Click the CPE icon  to start the Cover Page Editor (Document Designer)

The CPE will open with a blank screen.

Go to the Properties Tab on the right hand side.

Double-click on the name "Test Next Document".

The following dialog appears:

By default, image files in the World Fax Client folder are shown.

Select the image that you previously captured (e.g. doc1.tif) and click Open.

The Properties Tab should now show:

Next, double-click the name "Overlay with Document" so that it changes to "Yes".

At that point, your image should appear in the main workspace.

You can then start to overlay data fields using the toolbar on the left hand side.

For example, click the data field icon  , then draw a box in the main workspace.  It will show the field {FAX Number} by default.

In the Properties Tab, double-click on the name "DB Field".

You should get the following dialog:

Here, you can choose a different field such as {Name}, then click OK.  The new field name should appear in the box on the main workspace:

Using the Properties Tab, you can also play with the font properties and other settings.

You can also preview the results of the data merged into the document.  Go to the Properties Tab and use the down arrow to select the object "Document:CoverPage"

You will get the Properties for the overall document. Double-click the name "Test Fax List".

You will get the following selection dialog:

Click your desired FaxList and click Open.  By default, the World Fax Client folder is shown.  If your files are in a different folder, then use the "Look In" drop down box to find the correct location.  By default, World Fax looks for files with a .fax extension.  If your files use a different file extension such as .txt, then change the file type in the "Files of Type" drop down box.

You will now be able to see the preview data on top of your document!

You can also use the arrow buttons at the bottow left to move to other recipients in your faxlist.

When finished, click the Save icon  or choose File | Save from the menu.  The default name in the Save As dialog shows "untitled.cpt".

Change this to an appropriate name and click Save.  For example, you might want to name the .cpt file with the same name as your tif image such as doc1.cpt.

After saving, exit the CPE.

Now, go back in the Job Setup Wizard and click the folder icon  to get the following screen:

Select the .cpt file that matches your .tif file (e.g. doc1.cpt) and click Open.

Finally, click the name .cpt file to highlight it, then click the Up Arrow button  to move the .cpt file to the top of the list. Continue with the rest of the job setup and press Send!!
